GLaDOS Personality Core
This groundbreaking project is dedicated to the development of a real-life version of GLaDOS, the iconic AI from the Portal series by Valve. GLaDOS is not just a voice; this initiative aims to create an interactive, aware, and embodied personality core that enhances user interaction and engagement through advanced hardware and software innovations.

Key Features

  • Voice Generation: The first step in our journey has involved training a state-of-the-art GLaDOS voice generator, which allows for realistic and immersive voice interactions.
  • Realistic Personality: Our aim is to generate prompts that lead to a coherent and realistic “Personality Core,” making GLaDOS more engaging than ever.
  • Memory and Vision Systems: We plan to augment GLaDOS's capabilities further by integrating medium- and long-term memory using MemGPT and enabling vision through LLaVA.
  • 3D Printable Components: The project includes plans for designing 3D-printable parts that allow enthusiasts and developers to create their own GLaDOS systems.
  • Animatronics System: To enhance interactiveness, we will develop an animatronics system with expressive animations to allow GLaDOS to convey emotions and reactions.

Technical Overview
At the heart of our system’s architecture is a low-latency platform that enables prompt voice interaction (response times of under 600ms). Here’s how it works:

  1. Voice Detection: The system continually records input to a circular buffer, detecting when the user stops speaking to trigger transcription.
  2. Transcription and Processing: The transcribed text is processed live by a local large language model, generating new sentences during the speech playback to minimize latency.

Project Goals

  • Reduce dependencies to make the system compatible with constrained hardware—stripping away large libraries like PyTorch to create a more efficient framework.
  • Simplify understanding and coding by rewriting essential components, ensuring that GLaDOS remains as accessible as possible to developers.

Hardware Integration
Using servo and stepper motors as the basis for movement, GLaDOS will be able to track and interact with her environment. Users can look forward to receiving STL files for 3D printing her exterior, along with a suite of animations to bring her to life.
